6.15 am Lapta water meter (card) disabled.
Now will get a bill monthly to pay.
What happens if I don't pay monthly, do I pay for what I use?
Before, locals never paid for water but belidere would not cut them off!

I spoke to Mr Tolga at Lapta Belediyesi this week.
He said they had many problems with the card meters malfunctioning and cutting people's supply off, resulting in engineers constantly having to go out to reset the meters etc.
The existing meters, minus the electronics, will stay.
From now on meters will be read monthly and customers will be billed only for what they use (not like the old system of paying for 10 tonnes even if you used much less). The bill will be left at the meter.
I pay by direct debit from Iktisat bank.

Thanks for the reply.
I remember the uproar when they were installed because EVERYBODY had to pre pay for the water ,public services and property tax.

13roman58, sorry but you are wrong, not EVERYBODY had to pre pay for the water. In this part of Alsancak we have NEVER had to prepay and just pay for what we use. A nice man comes round about the 15th of each month, reads our meter, and sticks the bill into our post box. Before we had a post box he used to stick it under a rock near the gates. As simple as that.

Sorry Sophie but the headline is ' Lapta water meters ' nothing to do with alsancak, and therefore I am not wrong.
Having lived in Lapta/karsiyaka for14 year's I think that I have a better understanding of what happens here.

Is there a payment machine for water at the Lapta Belediye, like the one in Alsancak?

It looks as though you can pay online here; just change services to Su - I've already paid my council tax (emlak) this way successfully. This link is the "home" page where you can choose belediyesi and/or utility.

Thanks for that - I don't see how that would manage to top up the balance on the card for the smart water meter though!

I'm not there at the moment, I'm here; so I'm going off what I've read/been told - I assume that now the "smart" meters have been lobotomised, the cards are no longer operative...? :-?

I don't think that this particular meter has been 'got at' yet!

I'm not sure, 'cos I'm not there - I just got a call from a friend...

I'll tell 'em to go use the machine in Girne :)

I was told by the workers to take my piece of paper that they gave me to the water dept along with the card.
Gave the paper and card in,checked on computer and given paper back with the credit in tonnes of water written on.
Told that a meter reader will come and leave a paper receipt.
Back to the future.
