If it did, it was a 5.3 strength Earthquake under the sea, about 75 miles away in the direction of Antalya/Alanya.

Sat on sofa and it began vibrating. Last one we experienced was from Dudley years ago

Never felt a thing. Mind you we had one in Lincolnshire a few years ago that shook loads of people from their beds. I never felt that either. Not that I haven't got feelings of course!

We were outside in the garden 537 Feet AMSL up in Catalkoy and felt nothing. 75 miles isnt far though. The reason the mountains exist behind Catalkoy and indeed along the north coast is because many moons ago the plates below the surface collided with the very tough geostructure below Cyprus causing their formation. It extends at least as far South as Lebanon and Egypt . That's not to say though we are safe but we're certainly on sturdy Terra firma.

The Richter scale is logarithmic, meaning that whole-number jumps indicate a tenfold increase. In this case, the increase is in wave amplitude. So 5.3 is one-tenth of the force of a 6.3 quake which in turn is one-tenth of a 7.3...

Yes I felt the tremor, as did a close (ish) neighbour. It's not the first time, this time the fireplace tools did not start swinging as they have on other occasions.

Is that a euphemism?

Sorry I've been locked in the bathroom for 5 days and missed your quip. I thought it was an ubiquitous dichotomy and I don't know what that means either!
