Medlar trees??? Where did our fruit go?
Since we moved to Catalkoy 3 years ago we have had an abundance of fruit from 3 trees in our garden. They were yellow, about the size of an olive but sort of tasted like an apple but with a large stone in.
From day one when our container arrived the container driver was scoping up the fruit . the olive pickers we have collect them as well.
So when we went to Dogankoy on Saturday to the first howthorn Fest we found out they were Medlar trees and they made jam and honey from them.
Unfortunately the mums who were supposed to turn up to demonstrate making said jam / marmalade didn`t turn up so my better half started research on line.
BUT when we checked in the garden, for the first time in 3 years, NO FRUIT!!! ok there was about 10 on the floor around one tree but we are normally INUNDATED with them. So unless someone pinched them..............................any ideas......do you have a fallow year????

I think that the locals have got a very finely tuned sense of when fruit is ripe...
About 6 weeks ago. I looked at my fig tree, and thought "just about right - I'll pick those tomorrow" - the next day, there wasn't a fig to be seen!
I reckon that's where yours went ...
