Caveboy, check out finance section. It would appear that ALL banks dispensing foreign currency are charging 2.5%

Re: Garanti Bank
An alternative is a Revolut account card - search the forum for Revolut and you will see all of the information that you need. ..
Using a smartphone app, you can load up the account/card with any amount of Sterling (or Euros- depends on where you're from!) direct from your home Country bank account. When you use it here, it automatically gives you the best exchange rate possible - always better than the local exchange bureaux. ..
Obviously there will still be the odd occasion when you need cash, and the free version of Revolut does allow a limited amount of cash withdrawal via ATMs each month, although they would still be subject to the ATM operator's rules/charges.
By using Revolut for the majority of your local expenditure, you can minimise the ATM fees.
If you do manage to get the hard cash that you need without paying any fees, then all well and good, but using Revolut where you can has saved me plenty!
I understand that there are other similar accounts to Revolut, but as I don't have any direct personal experience of any others, I can't really comment on how they work.

Re: Garanti Bank
Managed withdraw sterling from Is bank today without charge but I expect the other banks will catch up with Garanti soon. I tried to get a revolut card but as part of the application process it sends a text message to your mobile and I seem to remember it wouldn't do it to a Turkish mobile number. So maybe need to be in UK using UK mobile when applying?

Why bother to post if you are not willing to share and help others.
