IPVanish VPN.

Around one week ago Navek posted news of a special offer from IPVanish on his Kodi thread, of two years cover for the price of one year, available for life.

Having read all the info of their pitch it does look good to my inexperienced eye. I have not previously used a VPN and of course we do not discover how good, bad or indifferent various providers are until we have paid our money.

The offer expires tomorrow and therefore I would be grateful if any IPVanish users on this Forum could comment on the IPVanish Service.

One thing that does bother me is paying for a VPN and then the Turkish government stopping access as they have with so many VPNs already. And having just looked up the article to add as a link I see IPVanish is on there!

IP Vanish is the best one i have used so far. Huge numbers of servers to choose from. Good price as well + you can cancel i believe within first 7 days if you are not happy. Also they have their app for all devices (pc, tablet, smart phone, etc). I used it for a month when I actually needed it, but left quite good overall impression.

Bans are not applicable for TRNC.

You don't mention which things you have already tried - so... have you read this?

Thanks Keith. I have seen that a tried most of the stuff.........but then became bored and gave up!! If it's true that we don't get blocked the same as Turkey (which I can believe) then I'll put in a bit more effort. Thanks anyway.

Thanks to all for the responses.

I was wary after reading the first post from LauraB about Turkish interference. Unfortunate that the post from extreme612 stating that TRNC is not affected did not appear until this am as the special offer deadline from IPVanish had past yesterday..

Even so, from not knowing any VPN's and little about the facility, I now have a lot of reading to do following up the list provided by Navek and the links from Laura & Keith although the latters Tunnelbear pages will take several readings for my diminishing grey cells to grasp.

Thanks folks.

No worries Laura, no criticism implied nor intended.

Who knows anyway because Turkey controls the Telecom system TRNC could be next.

I did read a month or so ago announcements from Paypal and another bank that payments to them were to be blocked by by the Turkish Gv't.

With no Facebook, Twitter or online shopping abroad Turkish citizens have been stepped back in time by an increasingly authoritative regime.

Yes my thoughts were that as the internet was controlled by TTNet that the restrictions here would be the same as in TR. It appears not.

Paypal has been blocked for quite some time now. Whether the restriction applies here as well I have no idea as I've not tried using mine.

And yes, you are quite right with regard to the citizens of Turkey. All very sad. Fifteen years ago the country seemed to be making real progress. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of today with worse to come I think.

Laura B wrote:Yes my thoughts were that as the internet was controlled by TTNet that the restrictions here would be the same as in TR. It appears not.
In simple terms there are two products ISPs in the TRNC can buy from TTnet. One product is a 'transit' product and use of this product does not apply any Turkish national restrictions to the connection out from Turkey. The other product is not a 'transit' one and does apply Turkish national restrictions. MM has in the past used this 'non transit' product at times because it does have other potential advantages as well as the downside of applying Turkish national restrictions. Again in simple terms when using the 'transit' product the route through Turkey is 'fixed' and pre-defined and any issues on this route are only resolved by manual human intervention which takes time, where as with the non transit product the route through Turkey is 'dynamic' and automatically self corrects to route around any problems without the need for manual human intervention. Currently MM is using the transit product.

Thanks for the 'Heads Up' Laura.

I see that is the same 2 year 'deal' previously offered so I paid my money. Hope I don't need to get back on this board with too many questions as this is all new to me!
