Re: Vpn
It does appear the BBC has taken action (around mid day of 27th Mar 2018) to try and limit the use of iplayer by those outside the UK using VPN / DNS redirect services. Certainly the paid for VPN service I used has reported such on it's status page, though they do seem ot have got their service back and running again. MM will endeavour to get it is free vpn service working with BBC iplayer once more but at this stage I can not say if this will be feasible or if it is how long this may take.

https://www.streamvia.com/ is currently working. One of many many paid for vpn services out there - just happens to be the one I have used personally for many years now.ozankoys wrote:Yes thanks for the update Erol, in the meantime can anybody recommend a paid for VPN that works please?

Re: Vpn
Notice Multimax have a notice on their website saying they are looking into it but not sure if it can be resolved and if so time scale.
Reckon this is going to be an on going issue, so have signed up for the VPN on Erol`s post, streamvia.com.
Thanks Erol, easy to set up and works a treat, also does not conflict with my email which the MM vpn did.
Suspect the resources they can devote to sorting a vpn problem are greater then MM`s as it is their business and MM`s vpn is a freebie add on.

Indeed. We also need to wait and see if there is going to be an ongoing 'battle' between the BBC and VPN providers in the short term before we can sensibly asses the options for the MM vpn specifically I am afraid.ITFCMike wrote:Suspect the resources they can devote to sorting a vpn problem are greater then MM`s as it is their business and MM`s vpn is a freebie add on.

Re: Vpn
Probably not being slowed down by streamvia but by some other factor I would guess / suggest. Just tried a test myself, downloaded masterchef series 14 episode 15 (59 mins play time) in HD using the BBC's download app and streamvia as VPN (their smartstream dns redirect service) and took around 9 mins to download and speeds averaging around 35Mbs - 40mbs.ozankoys wrote:I downloaded Streamvia & it works on BBC iplayer but SO SLOWLY it took 2 hours to record 30 mins yesterday evening.
Not sure about today because I set it up & went out 3 programmes recorded by the time I got home.

For the purpose of accessing video from the UK that is otherwise blocked to me I use their Smartstream service. For other things I use the VPN.ifonly wrote:Erol - do you use the VPN service or the Smartstream service from StreamVia ?

I have been using Nord VPN for a while now and is very reliable.
It is very often voted one of the top 5 VPN services with different reviewers.
It is a paid service $79.00 ( £ 56 ish every two years which works out at $ 3.29 ( £ 2.34 ) per month.
I have never had a problem downloading or watching the usual TV programmes including Sky Sports SkyGo Etc.

Re: Vpn
I found this option on the streamvia.com website, for a VPN in the UK:
https://www.streamvia.com/clientarea/ca ... roduct&i=1
However, it does not give me a 'Smartstream' option. Does it give you that option after you pay?
Just want to be sure I am subscribing to the right service! I will be using this service to download (and store) programmes from BBC iplayer.
Thanks to Erol and others for their advice.

Re: Vpn
I bought the cheaper UK, USA and Canada option, at the moment just for the one month to give Multimax a chance to sort out their VPN also I didn’t want to pay for a longer period in case StreamVia goes down too. It’s incredibly easy to set up (on an iPad and iPhone anyway). I don’t download but watch catch up on BBC and it works fine. You do have the smartstream option too, although I haven’t set that up yet

Have just signed up to https://windscribe.com/ to try it out. There's a free version 2GB a month, or 10GB a month if you supply an email address. There is also a Pro paid for version. Thought I'd try out the free version first of all, to see if it works with BBC....it does.
Have downloaded the app, and also extensions for Chrome and Firefox. Using the browser extensions, you can watch BBC but you need the desktop app to download from BBC.

I see monthly/quarterly/annual payment options on Streamvia. I favour paying monthly as I hope MM's VPN is sorted before long. Is it easy to stop the subscription once started?https://www.streamvia.com/ is currently working. Re: Vpn
I just paid for one month, didn’t have to set up a direct debit or anything, don’t know if they’ll email me a reminder at the end of the month, will wait and see, but very simple and straightforward, no problems with it iPlayer so far

I don't mean to be rude, but...PapaBravo wrote:Bert -Don’t need a vpn to watch uk tv just use https:/ /easyview.eu/
Is that for live TV only, or does it have 'catchup' so that you can you also watch programmes shown earlier in the week?
The quickest way to find out is not to wait for him to respond, it's to just click on the link that he posted - it takes you straight to the website!

Agree with this. I have been through lots of VPN’s in my years out of the UK and Nord is by far the best one I have came across.Mr Chinnery wrote:I have been using Nord VPN for a while now and is very reliable.

Mr Chinnery -
OK, I signed up to Nord on the 3 year deal (£2.34/month). I tried it connected to Cyprus, and then to Turkey, but either way, when I select BBC Iplayer I still get the message advising that I cannot use it when outside the UK. What do I do next???I have been using Nord VPN for a while now and is very reliable.

If you want the BBC to think that you're in the UK, connect to the UK server!

Right, so that is my laptop sorted and I can now download (and watch live) from BBC Iplayer. Nord VPN was easy to install (even for me) and I now have a good VPN for the next 3 years for a nominal sum - and it can be installed on up to 6 devices. They also have yearly and 2 yearly deals.
