Mincemeat sweet pies without meat is a total enigma to me, may as well make a vegan steak & kidney pie!
1 ¼ pounds round steak, cut into small pieces
1 cup apple cider
4 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and finely diced
1 ⅓ cups white sugar
2 ½ cups dried currants
2 ½ cups raisins
½ pound chopped candied mixed fruit peel
½ cup butter
1 (16 ounce) jar sour cherry preserves
1 teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon salt
1 (16 ounce) can pitted sour cherries, drained with liquid reserved
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
2 tablespoons heavy cream

Better to set your post view in User Control Panel / Edit Display Options to "Descending". That way new posts are placed at top of thread, saves you constantly scrolling down and if thread is long, clicking to other pages created for the thread to get to latest post.

I've tried that but didn't like it, find it counterintuitive when trying to marshall my thoughts...Soner wrote: ↑Fri 20 Nov 2020 9:57 amBetter to set your post view in User Control Panel / Edit Display Options to "Descending". Please note although the muppets at the BBC don't proofread their content - I do.... so ignore the bit at the top where it says 'no cooking required' - it does need 1 hour of cooking in a large saucepan. I reckon I might do it in the slow cooker as it requires a low heat... can't do any harm and I can always transfer to a pan if I don't think it's reached a suitable temp for long enough.

I don't recall doing that, and I'm not going to search. Err so I did but that was on refusing to upgrade to Windows 10.. . Are you still running 7?

No, I gave in eventually and got used to W10.
Seriously though, try sorting by 'descending' - just for a week - you will adapt to the idea quite quickly, and it's so much easier when dealing with long (or very long) threads.
