Coming from UK to North Cyprus in my car
Hi I think this will have been asked many times but cannot trace the link.
If I come over to North Cyprus for say 4 months (Willing to pay for residency and we’ve got a villa with title deeds). Can I insure the car for the time I’m here or does it have to be the full year?
Many thanks.

Murphy try this link from 'cyprusscene' some time ago I hope it works for you. I saved it because I'm interested in doing the trip myself, hopefully in the not too distant future. There are two other chapters available detailing their experience on the road. Good luck

Upon entry, at the port, you can obtain a single month's (third party only) insurance for a visitor vehicle. Not sure about extending for a four month visit.
I drove across europe, down through Turkey and ferry to Girne, in 2005 (I think it was). No problems of note anywhere along the journey.

Would probably depend on the age of the vehicle. Over a certain age you can only get third party insurance and that is very cheap, so not a problem just run for the year. Otherwise if i Lapta area see David the insurance office across from Lockmans fish and chip restaurant and I think he will refund unused portion of the insurance when you surrender the covernote.

We haven’t decided, could be Italy-Ferry to Greece and onwards. Or we may go and see friends in Hungary, then on to Serbia - Turkey. Then both ways ferry to NC.

Also it depends on the year of your vehicle. Because different procedure applies for the car over 5 years old.
It is important to make sure that the vehicle is registered to the person wishing to import it.
Upon the importing your car to TRNC you will need to provide a Temporary Residence Permit papers, Ins and Out for the last 10 years and title deed for your property. Plus, if you do everything in time, you can get a certain tax exemption.

Obviously there must be certain exemptions because I know someone very well who has brought their car in from the Ukraine and they certainly haven't go full Title Deeds. They go back and forth to Ukraine for a period every year. (Maybe that's the answer)?

Just to clarify - the OP didn't mention 'importing' a vehicle (which implies paying import duties, registering the vehicle and taxing it) - he only mentioned driving here, insuring it, and then driving it around for, say, 4 months before departing (presumably with the vehicle).
