Strange email. Scam perhaps?
Received very strange email this morning in Turkish claiming to be from Immigration. As far as I can translate, asking me to email my passport details.
Has anyone else received this?
The sender email address is [email protected]

Both my wife and I have had the same email. We have residency applications in progress. No details been sent back as it was not our name

Re: Strange email. Scam perhaps?
I have also received this same email. It's not asking for you to email your passport details, and is for someone else.
Google translation
MR. NEVRUUZ PARLAKTUNA, YOUR RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION CANNOT BE APPROVED DUE TO YOUR PASSPORT VALIDITY EXPIRED AND YOU ARE OVERSEAS. WHEN YOU RENEW YOUR PASSPORT AND RETURN YOUR DOMESTIC, SUBMIT IT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF RESIDENCE OF THE Immigration Office. (EBRU T.)
Someone at Immigration has obviously made a balls up. I checked my residency status and it was now approved for payment, so assumed this person was next on the list, and they had made a mistake with paperwork, so emailed them back about the mistake.
Appears to be a bigger mistake than I thought as goodness knows how many have received the same email.

Same here, replied simply to say that they have the wrong email address but did not put our names etc on it.

Re: Strange email. Scam perhaps?
I have visions of every single person with an email address held by Immigration getting this email. Woops!
At least they have not included all email addresses sent to in the actual email. Hopefully the right person also received the email.

It will be suspicious to everyone that receives it because, it’s an email sent by a government department in TRNC.
Hands up anyone who sends an email to a government department or business for that matter in the TRNC and gets a reply.

Yes, got it as well. Replied that it was the wrong email address and had been deleted with no further action taken. First time I have ever received an email from that department so guess it's the first time they have ever sent one as well - maybe a scam but also could be honest mistakes due to lack of training.
No worries just don't add any of your own details if you do reply.

Unless of course, it might be a virus and it shouldn't have been opened. Time will tell I guess.

Am hearing that lots of folk have had this email now. I do think it has been a mistake rather than a scam or virus.
As Waddo says just delete and ignore.

Would appear to be a technical error.

Yes also got apology email, due to technical error.
Will have to change my terminology. Any time I do anything wrong in future it will be a technical error, not a balls up.

Re: Strange email. Scam perhaps?
When I used to have a “real job” in the computer industry we called them “features”, not “bugs”.
Being a hardware engineer (and we were always blamed first for any problems and had to prove our hardware wasn’t at fault) I took great delight telling my software colleagues that “No. your software didn’t break. It just never worked in the first place!”

Received another email from Immigration, sent to the wrong person. It appears there has been another technical error.

Re: Strange email. Scam perhaps?
Me too, had one today as well but got turned away from immigration as I could not pronounce my own name - lol. Can't be finger trouble as my email address would be difficult to input by accident - software faults are common but once we are off the Beta versions it will all be fine.

Re: Strange email. Scam perhaps?
It's not a scam Gates. It's someone at Immigration who has made a balls up and sent email to a load of people in error. Or, as Immigration call it....a technical error.
