Last night I was at a venue in Tatllisu, East of Girne. There was a live band playing outside. At 10pm police arrived and said it was illegal to have live music outside, only inside . They gave the owner a verbal warning. At 10.30 a environmental officer turned up saying the same thing, and asked the owner to sign a warning certificate, which he refused, as the last time he did this he was fined £4.000 pounds. At 11pm the police arrived with the environmental officer, by which time the music had stopped. The owner was informed that in future any live music played outside, he would be arrested. Yet 2 miles down the road in Esentepe, there are so called students that for over the last year have been having parties and loud music 7 nights a week until 4/ 5 / 6 in the morning. They bring in prostitutes, and are dealing drugs. The police know what is going on, but are saying they have not enough police to deal with the problem. We have had 3 dogs run down and killed by these people with their top of the range cars. Still nothing is done. Sorry but all businesses have suffered the last few years, yet they are still being victimised in favour of outsiders with no respect for what was a lovely place to live.
