Trying to navigate the TRNC mobile maze
So later in the year, I will arrive in TRNC. I will buy a phone so it will be registered. I'll the need a sim.
I'll be in TRNC for 7 weeks
Will need just some mins, some texts and some data, also want to be able to call ageing parent a few times, maybe 80 mins per month.
Is there such a package?
How do I register the sim or will turkcell or telsim do that?
How do I keep the number when I return back to the UK so that I can use it next time?
Is there a way of checking the balance in the phone or internet!
I don't want a massive package, really just emergencies locally!
Help, it's a real minefield?

Why not email Turkcell (www.kktcell.com) direct with your question, they can be very helpful. Also keep in mind they may just ignore you - lol.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Re: Trying to navigate the TRNC mobile maze
I have a Turkcell 400 Package, 400 minutes, 400 text + internet per month. Works out at about 95tl a month. You can pay online, via App or set up TRNC bank direct debit. You cannot call abroad with this package, but you can use wifi to make Whatsapp calls etc.
Not sure if this helps, but I find this way is easier to keep number.

Have you considered using your UK phone here? It depends who you are with and what your contract says in respect of roaming but it may work out to be as cheap.

Skype on your mobile is the way to go, or if not and you bring your laptop or tablet with you can still phone. I phone Australia once a month for half an hour or so and it costs me about 25 pence.

Re: Trying to navigate the TRNC mobile maze
TurkCell have tourist packages, such as:
Weekly tourist surfer package: 50 minutes of international calls, 500 SMS, 500mb internet, all for 35tl/week.
There is an app to check your usage and to top up when needed - the nice people in the TurkCell store will usually set this up on your phone.
I believe there is a trickle amount needed every so often to keep the SIM active when you are not here, but they will advise on this.

right I'm getting the hang of this, just need to know if I buy 600 units how long that lasts?
wonder if it needs a top up every 3 months or so to keep the sim live?
