Transfers with Wise
I'm trying to set up a transfer with Wise (was Transferwise). I am with Limassol Bank so transfers have to pass through Vakif bank in Ankara. I can set up the transfer to them but don't know where to add my account number for Limassol bank. Help!! Please!

Re: Transfers with Wise
When we use Transfer wise from UK to TRNC we put the TRNC account name and account number in the reference field of transfer wise. It certainly works for Creditwest. Worth trying a small value transfer before any large amounts.

Thanks for that caravanman. I did consider doing just that. I shall only send a small amount to begin with so maybe tomorrow I'll give it a go.

Re: Transfers with Wise
Hi gates. Sorry but I gave up the whole thing. Caravanman said he had put the name and account number in the reference field so I tried that. The form would only allow a certain number of symbols in the reference box and definitely not enough for account name and number. So for the moment I'm giving it a miss as it all makes my brain ache!!!

Re: Transfers with Wise
Hi Laura B. Sorry to read that you are unable to use Wise to transfer monies to TRNC. We have found that the reference field, after all IBAN numbers have been set up, gives 35 characters to input your account name and number, which is enough for our purposes. Yes some characters may not be recognised i.e for & we insert v v and it still gets through to the correct joint account.

Re: Transfers with Wise
Hi caravanman. Thanks for coming back again. Unfortunately I need 40 characters for names and acc number. I wonder if just one name and the account number would be ok. Really the name shouldn't matter a lot as the number says everything. Maybe I should try that in the morning. Thanks again.

Re: Transfers with Wise
This has been exactly my problem gates. However caravanman says he puts in the IBAN number of the bank in TR then further down there is a reference field and he puts in name of account holder and account number here. I intend to give that a go next week. We shall get there I'm sure

Well I use wise all the time and under normal circumstances would be happy to give advice but since I was given a ban for no apparent reason, sorry, not going to be helpful any more. I guess another ban is on its way....

Don't be daft and hold grudges. Get over it and get on with life, which is way too short.
Am sure that your advice and experience will be very welcome.

Thank you Kazzy2437. I am going to have another go this week.
Mrsgee. I'm sorry you feel you have been wronged but as it is nothing whatsoever to do with me I would rather this thread stayed on topic. I would be grateful if you feel you are able to give advice, otherwise maybe start your own thread on how you have been wronged.

Re: Transfers with Wise
Is it possible there is a difference between a "bank" and a finance company using a intermediary bank in Turkey that is causing the issue.

Kirk try without :
My bank use Vakiflar Bank as intermediary and that IBAN was accepted. It was just what to do about the onward part that stumped me.

Re: Transfers with Wise
I am trying to be helpful. When I started using wise I tried setting up a transfer from my HSBC account. It didn't work, I assumed not all banks do it. So, I then set it up to transfer from my hsbc debit card instead, slightly more expensive but it works a treat. The quickest transfer I had so far was under 2 hours best of luck.

Re: Transfers with Wise
Thanks Mrsgee. The problem Kirk and I are having is putting in the details of our accounts here in TRNC as our money has to pass through an intermediary bank in Ankara Turkey. I have the IBAN number for the Turkish Bank but the money then needs to be forwarded to my Limassol Bank account here for which I do not have an IBAN number which is recognised by Wise. We have been advised to put our name and account number in the ''reference'' field which I intend to try tomorrow with just a small amount of money.

Ah,I am with Garanti bank, the money is converted and goes straight to my tl account. So easy. Maybe contact wise and ask them? I have found wise so easy to deal with, but yes sent a small amount first time just in case.

Ah yes Mrsgee. Your bank is a Turkish bank so no intermediary necessary I shall try tomorrow and see how I get on. Someone said they're with Iktisat bank which is not a Turkish bank so it must work somehow. I shall report back!!

Re: Transfers with Wise
Maybe the difficulty is because of using limassol bank.... roc does not recognise trnc and doubt they would transfer to Turkish banks but of course I could be wrong maybe easiest option would be to open a current account at one of the Turkish or trnc banks? Not sure how easy that might be these days, but in the long run, might be the answer. Good luck.

Re: Transfers with Wise
No sorry you misunderstand me Mrsgee. Limassol bank, regardless of the name is a TRNC bank and transfers have to be made through Vakiflar bank in Ankara. No problem with that. It is just how to set up a transfer with Wise and obviously it is possible as other people have done it.

Re: Transfers with Wise
Oh right Laura B I did not realise that. All I know is my transfers are easy, direct from HSBC in uk to garanti. Maybe best then to contact wise to find out what the difficulty is. Best of luck.

Re: Transfers with Wise
YAY! Many thanks to everyone who has helped me do this. Today I transferred £30 from my Natwest account to my Limassol Bank account via debit card. Amount was taken at 3.10 this afternoon and I received a call from Limassol Bank at 3.40 to say it had arrived. Excellent service all round and so much better than drawing funds from Natwest by debit card now that the banks here all seem to make charges. I shall now be able to use for bigger amounts with more confidence.
To Kirk or anyone else who may be interested I put the IBAN number of Vakiflar Bank on the form and then my acc number at Limassol bank in the reference field.
